Hoping December doesn’t disappoint

The Hindu - - CHENNAI - Special Correspondent

As the city faces the prospect of a weak northeast monsoon, meteorologists hope that December will see a revive of rainfall activity to end the season with a smaller deficit.

To this end, they point out that cyclones are not limited to October and November alone.

Of the 33 weather systems that crossed the Tamil Nadu coast in the past five decades, 12 happened in December.

The most recent ones were Cyclone Fanoos in December 2005, Thane in December 2011, Madi in December 2013 and Vardah in 2016.

There is a possibility of a spell of heavy rain occuring at the end of the season as well, said weather expert Y.E.A. Raj.
