Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Su. Thirunavukkarasar on Saturday said that even if his predecessor E.V.K.S. Elangovan succeeds in removing him, the party leadership will not appoint him as a replacement.

“Elangovan keeps doing this regularly. Not just me: whom has he not criticised yet? My friend Chidambaram and family, Thangkabalu, Chellakumar — he has criticised everyone who is in a position of responsibility,” Mr. Thirunavukkarasar told reporters.

‘Keep trying’

Saturday’s statement by the TNCC president was the latest in a series of statements and counter statements that reflected a tussle between the TNCC president and his predecessor.

“Let him keep trying to remove people like me from our positions. Let him keep travelling to Delhi; all power to him if he can succeed in getting people removed from such positions. However, he will never be appointed as a replacement,” he said.
