‘Fear’ over Rafale making PM ‘corrupt’, says Rahul
Cites offer to Justice Sikri
Congress president Rahul Gandhi Sunday alleged that “fear” over the Rafale jet fighter deal was making Prime Minister Narendra Modi “corrupt” and “destroy” key institutions.
Mr. Gandhi cited a media report which claimed that the government had decided to nominate Justice A.K. Sikri for president/member of the London-based Commonwealth Secretariat Arbitral Tribunal (CSAT).
On Thursday, Supreme Court Judge Sikri’s vote proved decisive in the removal of CBI director Alok Verma over corruption charges.
However, on Sunday Mr. Sikri, the senior most judge after Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, withdrew his consent for the government offer to nominate him to the CSAT.
Citing the media report on the government’s offer, Mr. Gandhi tweeted: “When the scales of justice are tampered with, anarchy reigns. This PM will stop at nothing, stoop to nothing & destroy everything, to cover up the #RafaleScam.”
“He’s driven by fear. It’s this fear that is making him corrupt & destroy key institutions,” Mr. Gandhi said.
