Ayodhya row

The Hitavada - - THE OPINION PAGE -

With Ayodhya hearing deferred by Supreme Court upto January 29, it indicates that the final ruling is unlikely before polls. The case originally started in 1950 in Faizabad court, then transferred to Allahabad High Court which gave verdict in September 2010 and is now in SC pending for final verdict. A very long journey. People thought it would be finalised before the LS polls, taking into account the mounting pressure from VHP, RSS, Mahant lobby, Shiv Sena and also some BJP leaders.

However, Prime Minister Mr. Modi categorically stated that nothing sort of a legislation or ordinance would take place as the case is before SC. Government willing to wait for its verdict. With this development, due to one Justice Lalit withdrawing himself from the panel, it seems the verdict is bound to be delayed for some more days. Let us hope it is amicably and legally settled very soon.
