ARTIST SPEAK
Painter and art consultant Aradhana Dalmia
Inclined towards paints and empty canvases since she was a baby, Aradhana Dalmia discovered her real love towards art during her high school. Backed by the immense support of her art teacher in school and her parents, the artist in her began to flourish and bloom. Her pensive creativity and desire to paint was polished in Central Saint Martins, London. “The very first notable project commisioned by me was offered by Kunal Dalmia who later became my father-in-law. I was asked to make a 65 feet by 15 feet ceiling painting, which will be a depiction of his father’s life journey in Kolkata. And with the help of a talented painters group, the painting was successfully installed in the entrance of his office,” shares the artist. As she moved towards curating more and more projects for others, Aradhana really missed the emotions and solace involved in painting for herself. In order to restore her personal style, she decided to work on ‘luminous’ her indigenous work of arts. The paint used in the artworks has been exclusively curated and made by Aradhana herself. “I always wanted my paintings to glow and come to life. I have worked on creating the paint for over a year. And, after that it started glowing. It is all chromatic and very soft,” adds Aradhana. Generally, the ‘glow in the dark paintings’ are made with acrylic colours, but Aradhana innovated the whole concept by making the piece with oil paint as her forte has always been oil. Her works are highly inspired by India’s panaromic views and cultural diversities. Bird’s eye perspective on different subjects and landscapes such as, the Benaras ghats, forests, dissections and intersections along with lots of abstraction summarise her very first collection ‘Luminous’.
