Vastu Shastra for your garden

- IMPRESSIONS: DELILAH RODRIGUES

The use of Vastu Shastra to ascertain the positioning of rooms or furniture pieces is something that is heard of often. However, your garden could also be a space which could get some help if you incorporate this primitive principle. Since space crunch is a common worry among most home owners today, it is essential that this doesn't hinder your dream of having a garden within your home. In such cases a terrace or balcony garden comes as a relief. Now, when it is time for the upkeep of this garden you will definitely need some help. Mahha Guru, Gauravv Mittal gives tips on using the principle of Vastu Shastra for small terrace or balcony gardens. He gives advice on not only directions of plants, but also the kind of flowers, colours recommended, kind of garden accessories and maintaining a balance of five elements - earth, water, wind, fire and ether.

Here are some tips that will help your green areas stay in full bloom:

As a basic Vastu rule, one needs to keep the garden clean and neat. Remove dry creepers, leaves, flowers and overgrown shrubs. A well-made Vastu garden often minimizes the imbalance of a structure. Ensure that lawns are mowed regularly to create an environment for normal flow of natural energies.

If you plan the terrace garden on the North-West side, leave at least a distance of five feet from the North wall and place the garden from that point towards the South, touching the West wall.

Since Budh is considered as the Lord of the North, plants with green leaves/flowers should be placed here.

Climbers within the house should be grown vertically climbing or horizontally trailing. Fountains or small terrace ponds are favourable towards the North-East.
