Simplicity, a lot of greenery and a high degree of functionality defines the Bengaluru home of Purnima Sama

Located in Bengaluru, the garden city and the silicon valley of India, the Screen House designed by Annkur Khosla Design Studio belongs to Purnima Sama, her husband and their son. Having relocated from the US, the couple was keen on settling down in Bengaluru city, which is known for its green pockets.

The brief given to the design team for this four room apartment with an attached terrace, was to keep it simple. All that the homeowners wanted was an aesthetically designed home that suits their functional requirements. Annkur Khosla, Principal Architect, Annkur Khosla Design Studio reveals, “We are the architects of the building as well, so we envisaged space to ensure that the structure of each apartment is well designed for every client. In a building project, there are several end users and you have to think for a larger social group. Additionally, when you also have to play the role of the interior designer, you have to challenge yourself to think about what more can be done with it.”

First and foremost, a connect was established between the indoors and the nature outside. Screens were used throughout the home, to not only bind the space, but to also demarcate and define the spaces within. Adding to the grandeur is a large mirror. “We placed the screens in a unique manner. In terms of colours, fresh colours were incorporated in the rooms for a vibrant vibe, whereas warm colours were used for the inviting living room to create a sense of warmth,” explains Annkur. Since the man of the house is in the tech industry and designs chips with Google, technology had to be a part of the home. Thus, wireless technology was used to connect the music speakers that could also be connected through a mobile phone. What further adds to the ambience of the home is the warm and amiable nature of the family residing there.
