Home-sweet-home – that’s what dream homes are made of. However, there are a few homes that need no formal introduction, nor they need to be spoken about. They are simply a visual treat. One such ultra-luxurious home is of Sonal and Andrew Holland, located in Peddar Road, Mumbai. The apartment was previously owned and occupied by Maharaja Hari Singh of Kashmir, however, Sonal’s creative skills and an eye for detail has given this home a master-class appeal which is nothing short of super luxury. India’s first and only Master of Wine, Sonal Holland wanted a space called home that would speak about her passion for wines, befitting for wine soirees; and one that would feel like home for her expat British husband Andrew Holland, who is an Indian resident, and a financial market expert, residing in India for the past 20 years.

Sonal says, “We are residing in this apartment for the past 10 years, we recently got our home revamped. Our home reflects a true personal space. It has memorabilia, which we have collected from our sojourns from across the globe. Whatever artifacts you see across the house have been selected by me.” The Hollands are art lovers and that is why every corner of their large and spacious living room adorns a piece of art by master artists – be it Paresh Maity, Lalita Lajmi or M F Hussain. Just like the way Sonal is passionate about the tastes of wines, she is very particular about the decor of her home. She mentions, “I want my home to be clutter-free. While re-designing my house, I strictly decided to keep myself away from falling to temptations of buying everything that I came across from different stores. I wanted a sense of space, a sense of belonging; a space where whenever I walk in, I feel lighter and can breathe easy.” The house has a very positive aura about it. It is Vaastu compliant, a beautiful place to live in, and imbibes the vibe of the 40’s and the 50’s. It is not an overtly India styled home – it is a home with a European touch – more of a classic and contemporary styled living space with a sense of belonging; truly refined, harmonious with a welcoming feel.
