The Ideal Home and Garden - - Artist Speak -

A practicing architect and founder principal of the design studio SML Architects in Mumbai. I enjoy designing, doing research and executing projects at all scales. I also teach architecture design and conduct workshop at NMIMS BSSA, Mumbai.

Architecture marvel I worked are…

I am not sure if there is such a thing as an architecture marvel. As an architect you have to do your best work for every project, but I really enjoyed detailing my personal residential interior project called ‘Birch Ply House’ where we used birch ply in its raw, exposed form in various capacities and scale throughout the house.

Design Inspiration for me is…

Too many and in various design fields. Works of sculptor Richard Serra, Olafur Eliasson, paintings of Hundertwasser, architectural works of Carlos Scarpa, Frei Otto, Tadao Ando, Richard Rogers, Peter Zumthor, Atelier Bow-Wow, RCR, Nieto Sobejano, Junya Ishigami, Alvaro Siza, Enric Miralles, Toyo, and lot more.

Best material to work with...

Concrete for its quality of being pure, malleable and unpretentious.

A must have travel accessory for me…

Print of the map of the place that I am traveling

I’m currently reading…

‘Slightly out of Focus’ by photojournalist Robert Capa, which is a memoir of World War II. I like to read, know and understand what’s going on in other artistic sectors like music, art, photography and literature.
