Fujisawa Sustainable Smart Town by Panasonic
For a long time Japan has been called the home of global technology and we couldn’t agree more after witnessing Fujisawa Sustainable Smart Town that is developed and led by the Japanese tech giant Panasonic. The Fujisawa SST is a joint project between the private and public sectors, and is a smart town based on actual lifestyles that will house 1,000 households. Aimed to reduce carbon dioxide emission as well as water and energy consumption, this 19-hectare smart town has already opened its door for the residents and offers local energy generation for self consumption, CCTV surveillance, eco-friendly mobility etc. The entire project will offer 600 detached houses and 400 condos, health and educational facilities, and a senior living project, among others
About Houses: Every detached house in Fujisawa SST will be equipped with a solar power generation system and storage batteries. Devices for managing power consumption by home appliances are integrated into a complete Smart HEMS (Home Energy Management System). The power generated by the respective systems can be used to meet household requirements and excess power can be sold. Also, self creation and self consumption of energy makes it possible to ensure that lifelines will last for at least three days during disasters.
About Security: Around 50 surveillance cameras and lights are installed within the community to provide comprehensive security in an open atmosphere. An informational terminal is linked to the television of each residence that delivers and displays disaster information like heavy rain and other weather warnings. This system can also be utilised for safety confirmation in emergencies, communication of changes in town events, or ballots related to community program.
About Mobility: The most interesting feature of Fujisawa SST is the sharing service for electric vehicles and electric-assisted bicycle tailored to residents’ needs. You can check the availability and make the reservation of the car using your TV or smartphone from
home using the mobility portal. The portal also provides car sharing or rental car delivery service and allows the amount of CO2 reduction to be checked through the use of these services.
About Wellness: A comprehensive wellness center inside the community that combines elderly care facilities, assisted residences for the elderly, nursery centers, after-school day-care centers and cram schools all in one facility. This will create more opportunities for intergenerational interactions, leading to better emotional development for children.
About Community: Fujisawa SST provides a one-stop portal site linked to town information and unique services. Everyone, from children to seniors, will be able to access advanced services via this portal. For example, tailor-made energy saving advice for your home, accessing events and sightseeing information for the surrounding area as well as information about any disaster and precautions to be taken.
