A stunning and beautiful Moscow home
A perfect symbiosis of styles and colours, the single space is divided into two areas by a console with art deco table lamps. An unusual chandelier, contemporary artwork, and velvet curtains create an atmosphere of aristocratic chic.
The striking colour palette, stylish furniture, and impressive contemporary artwork makes this Moscow home stunning and awe-inspiring
The Botti chandelier is the perfect midcentury lighting design, inspired by the American trumpet player as a tribute to jazz music. With the structure handmade in brass and boasting a sophisticated gold plated finish, this modern ceiling light showcases that high quality craftsmanship is the right match for the art deco table lamps.
the home, owned by a married couple with a teenage daughter is located in a prestigious residential complex in Moscow. The apartment is located on the 12th floor of the building and it offers a fantastic view of the surroundings. “The owners wanted an interior in a modern and respectable style. Therefore I decided to create a monochrome colour palette, but then the owners requested me to add a little colour. That’s how the interior with a striking colour palette, stylish furniture and impressive contemporary artwork came to life,” says Oksana Salberg-Vachnadze, the designer.
The neoclassical style and the colour white served as the starting point of the interior. The white cornice mouldings create a beautiful contrast with colourful modern furniture and add a certain cultural context. Oksana adds, “The owners came up with many ideas themselves; they visited the iSaloni fair in Milan with me and chose furniture for the living room, the dining room, and the bedroom.” The apartment’s planning is simple and logical: it consists of three rooms with a big living room and a space that combines the kitchen with the dining room, and two bedrooms - master bedroom and the daughter’s bedroom. It also has two bathrooms, two dressing rooms, and a laundry room. Moreover, two loggias were added to the living space, next to the kitchen and the bedroom.
The colour scheme of the living room area is bright accents against the white background. The stylish rug with a print imitating stone is a link between furniture items - the sofa, the bright yellow armchair and the coffee table with an openwork metal base. The dining area is combined with the living room. The single space is divided into two areas by a console with art deco table lamps. An unusual chandelier, contemporary artwork and velvet curtains create an atmosphere of aristocratic chic. Wall and ceiling mouldings and herringbone parquet flooring are inspired by the Paris impressions. A Venetian mirror and contemporary console is one of the examples of how effortlessly objects coexist in the home. The handmade mirror is done in a rare, almost lost technique of mirror carving and is unique.
A convenient ergonomic kitchen with a kitchen island is stylistical and colour neutral. Oksana says, “It is deliberately not supposed to stand out in an open plan living room/ dining room/ kitchen area. The breakfast table is neutral
and laconic as well. The bright accent of the kitchen are the yellow chairs.” A small office area is organised in the bay window of the dining room. The entrance hall, one of the walls and the door slope are finished with mirrors: it adds more air and light to the space. The corridor divides the private and the common areas of the apartment and the white colour palette and wall mouldings make the space visually bigger. The console with the geometric print is designed by Oksana herself. The pale turquoise colour of the Tiffany box serves as the starting point of the master bedroom’s colour palette. Crimson, red, and grey objects were chosen to accompany it. Mirrors play a major role in the bedroom’s decor - there is a mirror door slope, a mirror above the bed and nightstands that seem to slowly melt into the air. The bedroom can be viewed from the entrance. A light hexagonal lamp accentuates the shape of the bay window of the bedroom. In the bay window, there is a tea table with armchairs, the colour of which matches the colour of the walls to make the room appear more spacious. The bathroom is designed with a deliberate luxury - marble panel, black free-standing bathtub and a contrasting black and white floor pattern. Copper and gold accessories complete the picture. The guest bathroom’s design is neutral with traces of Moroccan style. In the daughter’s room there is a comfortable lounge area with many pillows in the bay window. The study area is compact and consists of a small elegant desk and an office chair.
