Innova crushes woman, granddaughter
70-year-old victim’s daughter-in-law injured; cops hunt vehicle with Haryana registration number
GREATER NOIDA HIT-AND-RUN
A 70-YEAR-OLD woman and her 15-year-old granddaughter were crushed to death by a black Innova with a Haryana registration number near Kailash Hospital in Greater Noida Tuesday, police said.
The elderly victim’s 19-yearold daughter-in-law was injured in the incident and admitted to Kailash Hospital, police added.
The vehicle sped away after the incident, eyewitnesses told the police.
“The car has been identified as a black coloured Innova. The number has been flashed and checks are being conducted,” said Arun Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Greater Noida - 1st), Wednesday.
The hit-and-run happened at about 5.45 pm Tuesday, said police, identifying the deceased as Shanti and her graddaughter Geeta. They died The injured woman is also named Shanti.
Aarti (22), who was in the group, escaped unhurt with her 2-year-old child, said police. The women, are from Nepal and related, police added.
Doctors at Kailash Hospital said, “Two women were brought dead to the hospital. The third had injuries on her head and arms. Her condition is critical, but she is not in the ICU.”
Eyewitnesses said the women were crossing the road when the Innova hit them.
“The car was being driven at a speed of nearly 100 kmph. It hit two women after which the driver reversed the vehicle. As it was being reversed, it hit the third woman before speeding away. The car was coming from Pari Chowk side. Some people tried to chase the car but they could only note down the number,” said an eyewitness.
Food vendor Narayan, son of 70-year-old victim Shanti, said, “My mother came here for treatment a few weeks ago. They were going to a relative’s house in Alpha-i in Greater Noida.”
This is the second hit-andrun case in Gautam Budh Nagar area in four days. On Saturday, a BMW hit three persons, killing one of them, in Noida Sector 24.
