Murdered NDMC officer’s daughter has a request for top cop
AS PARTIES TRADE CHARGES
IN THE middle of a political storm over her father’s murder, Iqra Khan, daughter of New Delhi Municipal Council officer M M Khan, has requested Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma to ensure that the station house officer investigating the case is not transferred.
Khan was shot dead near his residence in Jamia Nagar on May 16, allegedly for refusing to accept bribes from Delhi hotelier Ramesh Kakkar.
Kakkar and five others were arrested days after the murder.
In a letter to Verma, Iqra said she had recently come to know about the transfer of Station House Officer Mangesh Tyagi, who had been assigned the case initially.
“The same SHO, along with the investigation officer, had been doing quite well. I have communicated with Special Commissioner of Police Mr P Kamraj and DCP Mr M S Randhawa regarding the same,” stated Iqra’s letter.
“I request you let SHO Mr Mangesh Tyagi handle my father’s case, cancel his transfer and reinstate him on the case,” she wrote in the letter.
Tyagi was transferred to the South District on June 9, as part of a routine transfer process, along with 45 other inspectors, said sources in Delhi Police.
Police have already assured Iqra that the investigation into Khan’s murder would be completely fair and impartial, said Special Commissioner of Police (crime) Taj Hassan.
On Tyagi’s transfer, Hassan told The Indian Express, “It was a routine transfer as some departmental inquiry was pending against him in another matter... it was not related to this case. The current investigation officer is pursuing the case and it is being properly monitored by senior officers.”
