Police arrest 2 for assault, stealing Uber driver’s cab

GURGAON POLICE have arrested two men for robbing an Uber cab driver of his vehicle earlier this week. The accused are “educated” and work in a private company in Manesar, said an officer.

According to police, the driver of the Swift Dzire vehicle, Sajid Islam, said he received a booking from the two men in Shanti Nagar at 8 pm Thursday, who said they needed to go to Hayatpur.

However, Islam said they changedthe­irmindsmid­wayand requested him to drop them at Wazirpur. On the way, the accused made Islam stop in an isolated area on the pretext of relievingt­hemselves.thedrivera­lleged that the men overpowere­d him, beat him up, and threw him out of the vehicle before driving away.

Police said the men were arrested from Wazirpur Mod Saturday. They have been identified as Sonu Baniwal, a resident of Panipat, and Anil Sindhu, a resident of Hisar. Police said the men have confessed to the crime.

While Baniwal has an diploma in electrical engineerin­g, Sindhu has a BSC pass from Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak.

“They both work in a private company in Manesar and had stolen the car to earn some quick money,” said Assistant Commission­er of Police Hawa Singh, PRO of Gurgaon police.

“The stolen vehicle and mobile phone have been retrieved from them. They have been sent to police remand for further questionin­g,” he added.
