Man held for robbery

New Delhi: Police have arrested a man in connection with a spate of robberies, snatching and vehicle thefts in southwest Delhi. The accused has been identified as Aman (20), said police. “With his arrest, police have solved nearly two dozen cases of robbery, snatching and theft of vehicles,” said an officer. ENS The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) started its celebratio­n of ‘Swachh Bharat Week’ Sunday with a sanitation drive along the railway track at Sanjay Camp. The drive was conducted by NDMC health officials and local residents. Railway officers also participat­ed and supported the drive along the railway track. Posters of ‘Asli Tarakki’ were placed in the area to have “repeated visual impact and discourage open defecation”.

The residents in Sanjay camp were told about harmful effects of open defecation and local leaders were roped in along with ‘swachhagra­his’ to create awareness through direct interactio­n and nukkad natak. Officials said “high level of awareness was observed in the community, including children, regarding objectives of Swachh Bharat”.

A joint pledge was taken by all to be actively involved in ‘Roka -Toki’ and not to defecate in the open. The NDMC has planned to have frequent interactio­n with people so that sustainabl­e change in mindset and habits can be brought about, said an official statement issued by the council.
