In Assam, panchayat members to take forward cashless economy message
WITH THE Centre’s push for a cashless economy, the Bjp-led government in Assam Monday launched a programme to train over 28,000 elected panchayat representatives for spreading awarenessaboutdigitalprocesses among the people of the state.
“While the Prime Minister has announced his policy of taking the country towards cashless transactions, we want to make Assam the number one state in this. For that, we will first train over 28,000 elected representatives of the people at the panchayat level, who in turn will take the message to the 3.20 crore people of the state,” said Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, inaugurating the programme here in collaboration with the State Bank of India.
Underlining the youth’s role, Sonowal urged the education and youth affairs departments to also involve NSS cadets in the campaign.
“NSS volunteers from 180 colleges will work at various levels, including semi-rural and rural areas, apart from working among the youths, to motivate people to adopt various methods of cashless transactions,” Sonowal said.
Claiming that the people of Assam had adjusted themselves to the post-demonetisation situation, Sonowal praised tea garden workers and described them as the “best example”.
“The way lakhs of tea garden workers adapted themselves to the sudden change is the best example of how people of Assam have accepted demonetisation,” Sonowal said.
