- ANJU AGNIHOTRI CHABA

POLICE ON Friday arrested the son of a Jalandhar businessman whose wife, daughter-in-law and an acquaintance were found dead at their home on Thursday.

Police said businessman Jagjit Singh Loomba’s son, Amarinder Singh, was suspected to be behind the murders. They cited an extramarital affair between Amarinder, 42, and his accountant Tejinder Kaur (Ruby), 29, as the motive.

Jalandhar Police Commissioner Arpit Shukla said that Amarinder had allegedly hired Vipin and Amrit Singh to kill his wife, Paramjit, for refusing to divorce him. Amarinder and Tejinder have confessed that Vipin and Amrit had recced the house on February 21. They said they wanted to shoot Paramjit the next day, but could not.

The two allegedly killed Amarinder’s mother, Daljit, along with Paramjit and a friend, Khushwinder, on Thursday.

The police are looking for Vipin and Amrit.

Investigators said that when they began checking the call records of the Loomba family, they found numerous calls had been exchanged between Amarinder and Tejinder. “Our sources informed us about Amarinder and Tejinder’s affair. We caught her first and she narratedtheconspiracy,”saidshukla.

“Tejinder is married and her husband was also Amarinder’s employee. But when he learnt about Tejinder’s affair, he left the job and started living separately,” Shukla said.

In 2015, Amarinder allegedly bought a house for Tejinder in Jalandhar. After a few months, Paramjit and Daljit reportedly got to know about the house and confronted Tejinder.

“In January, Amarinder began hatching the conspiracy to get Paramjit murdered. He discussed it with Vipin, who helped him hire contract killer Amrit Singh of Sarhala Kalan in Hoshiarpur district. Vipin and Amrit agreed to do the job for Rs 8 lakh,” Shukla said. “On February 21, the assailants went to the residence under the pretext of replacing CCTV cameras. They instead made cameras dysfunctional,” he added.
