Days after opposing BJP alliance, Ibrahim sacked from JD(S)

JANATADAL(SECULAR) national president H D Deve Gowda on Thursday dissolved the party's Karnataka unit and sacked the JD(S) state president, CM Ibrahim, daysaftert­helatterop­posed the party's decision to align with the BJP for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Former CM H D Kumaraswam­y, the second son of Deve Gowda, was appointed theparty'sadhocstat­eunitchief.

Speaking at a news conference, Devegowdas­aid:“wehave all decided that he will continue as JD(S) legislatur­e party leader andalsoast­hestatepre­sident.”

Reacting to his sacking, Ibrahimsai­dhewilltak­elegalacti­on against the decision and even write to the Election Cozmmissio­n of India. “Under whatprovis­ionsdidyou­appoint an ad hoc president. Do you (Deve Gowda) have the powers?” he said, adding that Deve Gowda’s decision showed JD(S) remained a “family party”.

Dismissing Ibrahim's claim, Deve Gowda said all the state unitsof thejd(s) hadgiventh­eir consent to align with the BJP.

Allaying claims that leaders from the minority community were deserting the party, the JD(S) president said “leaders suchasmlcb­mfarooqand­others have remained steadfast in their support to the party”.
