Police bust sex traffickin­g racket in Vasant Kunj

ON MARCH 19, Delhi Police received a PCR call from a woman alleging she had been kidnapped. When police personnel reached the spot, the woman told them about a man who had called her to a flat in Vasant Kunj on the pretext of offering her a job at a beauty salon. But instead, he kept her captive at the flat from where he would “offer” her to clients across Delhi-ncr in lieu of a hefty sum. police carried out ar aid at the said flat and rescued another woman who said she was lured in a similar manner.

Police suspect that the accused had targeted over a 100 victims over the last one year from different parts of the country, including Assam, Chhattisga­rh and Himachal Pradesh.

The modus operandi was the same in all cases: The man would post an advertisem­ent – usually for the job of a receptioni­st or a secretary – and when a woman would arrive at the location, which turned out to be his flat, he would hold her captive and force her into sex trade, said police.

The accused, Y Prem Chandra Meetei, 36, who hails from Manipur and is a resident of Kishangarh, Rajasthan, was held earlier this week. Police said the man, who holds an MBA degree, had rented a 3-BHK flat at Vasant Kunj for Rs 40,000 to operate his rack et. police are probing if he was operating alone or had aides.

Vasant Kunj South Police Station regarding a kidnapping case. When the personnel reached the spot in Mahipalpur from where the call came, they found the woman who narrated her ordeal.

The woman then guided them to the flat where they met another woman who alleged she was

called to the flat after she responded to a job advertisem­ent for a role at a retail company.

“She further alleged that the accused used to push the girls into meeting different customers in Delhi/ncr. He had also called the girl who made the PCR call in a similar manner but she somehow escaped,” said Purohit.

A case under IPC section 370 (Traffickin­g of persons) was lodged against the accused.

Following the complaint, a police team led by acp(v as ant kunj) Satyajeet Sarin was formed and the mobile phone of the accused was put on surveillan­ce. after a series of raids, he was arrested from his hideout in Delhi.

Police said they have identified another victim, a woman from Himachal Pradesh, who the accused had called to his house in Kishangarh on the pretext of a job and attempted to rape her. “He took her nude photos and threatened to make them public if she did not agree to go with his clients,” said an officer. So far, seven bank accounts have come to the fore; a transactio­n of more than Rs 22 lakh was found in one of the accounts, said police.

Said an officer, “We suspect more than 100 girls to have been duped...the accused used to receive Rs 15,000-Rs 20,000 from each client ... statement of neigh bo ur shave been taken and the landlord of the accused too has been served notice.”
