Ukraine minister says ‘will build on dialogue between Zelenskyy, Modi’

UKRAINE'S FOREIGN minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Thursday that he will be“building on the di-alogue between Ukraine’ s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi” and pay specific attention to the peace formula.

Kuleba, who arrived in New Delhi on Thursday morning, is scheduled to meet external affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday. The two sides are expected to discuss Indian participat­ion in the peace summit to be organised by Switzerlan­d in the summer.

“The Ukrainian-indian cooperatio­n is important and we will be reinvigora­ting ties,” Kuleba tweeted. During his visit, Kuleba will have a number of engagement­s,including official meetings with Jaishankar and Deputy NSA Vikram Misri to “discuss matters pertaining to the bilateral partnershi­p and cooperatio­n on regional and global issues of mutual interest,” the MEA said.

The MEA’S official spokespers­on Randhir Jaiswal, said, “He is here for a two-day visit at the invitation of our external affairs minister.we will be discussing several aspects of our bilateral relationsh­ip and also looking into areas of interest and common concern, global issues and regional issues.”

When asked about the Indian participat­ion at the summit in Switzerlan­d, the MEA spokespers­on said: “Our position is very clear on peace initiative­s and we look at the Ukraine-russia conflict, we continue to encourage peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy and remain open to engaging always, that would help achieve this objective.”

On March 25, the Ukrainian foreign minister had posted a video on X and said that he would pay his first ever visit to India.

The video, posted on a day India celebrated ho li, showed him standing in front of a statue of Mahatma gandhi in ky iv, and also had visuals of celebratio­ns of ho li, along with archival footage of Gandhi.

“Today, India celebrates Holi, the most beautiful and colorful spring holiday. I wish everyone a happy ho li! standing herein ky iv, in front of Mahatma Gandhi's monument, I am also pleased to announce that this wee ki will pay my first ever visit to india ,” ku le ba posted on X.

In the video, he also said, “My visit will further strengthen our relations”. Terming Ukraine and India as two “big democracie­s”, Kuleba had said he was “certain that we are set to be good partners and friends”.
