- EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

THREE MEMBERS of a family were found dead in their Nihal Vihar home in Outer Delhi on Friday morning. Police suspect the man allegedly killed his wife and daughter before hanging himself.

According to police, they were alerted to the crime following a PCR call. On arriving at the scene, authorities were met with a gruesome sight — Ajay ( 42) was found hanging from a ceiling fan.

Nearby, his wife Teena ( 38) and their four- year- old daughter Varsha lay on the bed, bearing wounds inflicte d by a sharp weapon. The room in which the bodies were discovered was locked from the inside.

It was the couple’s elder son, Kushal, 22, who works as an electrician, who found their bodies. He was reportedly away at work at the time of the incident. Upon returning home in the morning, he made the grim discovery.

“The door was locked from inside but had a mesh screen through which he could look in,” said a senior police officer. “He broke down the screen with the help of neighbours who lived on the floor upstairs,” he added.

Police said their initial probe suggested that Ajay, who worked as a halwai, may have first allegedly murdered his wife and daughter, before taking his own life. Police reported that no suicide note was found at the scene.

According to a neighbour, Sunil, the family had moved to Nihal Vihar just before Holi.

“They kept to themselves and their little child often played outside their house,” he said, adding: “There was no indication that Ajay’s business was not doing well or things were tense in the family.”

A case has been registered under Section 302 ( murder) of the Indian Penal Code ( IPC), and an investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the incident.

The crime scene was cordoned off, and forensic and investigative teams were deployed to gather evidence and ascertain the sequence of events leading to the incident, said police sources.
