Will clear 7th pay commission arrears of staff: MCD to HC

THE MUNICIPAL Corporatio­n of Delhi (MCD) on Monday “assured” the Delhi High Court that it will clear outstandin­g arrears of 7 th central pay comm is si on (cpc) recommenda­tions to its former and existing employees.

The counsel appearing for the MCD submitted before a division bench of Acting Chief Justice Man mo han and justice man meet Pritam Singh Arora that an instalment of approximat­ely Rs 738 crore is due and payable by the Delhi government as “basic tax assignment” in the next few days. The counsel submitted that as soon as this amount is received, all its former and serving employees shall be paid the outstandin­g arrears of the 7th CPC recommenda­tions.

“They further ensure th a tr et ir al benefits of former employees shall also be taken care of in 12 weeks. They also state that in future salaries and pension shall be paid to existing and former employees on time,” noted the bench.

The bench, thereafter, said that the MCD is bound by its assurance/ statement, and further directed the Delhi government to release the instalment of Rs 738 crore within 10 working days. “If there is any breach of the aforesaids­tatement/ assurance/ undertakin­g, the petitioner­s shall beat liberty to file contempt proceeding­s against the Commission­er, MCD,” the bench said in its order, and thereafter, listed the matter for compliance on July 23.

Meanwhile, the delhi government counsel said during the hearing that the file is being processed, and urged the bench to grant time till april 25 for marking the payment.

The HC was hearing a batch of pleas over delayed payment of salaries and pension by the corporatio­n to its employees, and the failure to pay the ar rear soft he 7 th CPC.

On March 1, the bench had “prima facie” opined that the MCD is a “not a financiall­y viable organisati­on” since the payment of the 7th CPC arrears has been pending for too long.
