Woman dies after car hits bike taxi on Dwarka expressway in Gurgaon

A YOUNG woman working at an interior designing firm in Gurgaon died after an Ola bike taxi she hailed was hit by an unidentifi­ed vehicle in the city on the Dwarka Expressway, connecting Delhi and Gurgaon, on Monday, the police said.

The woman has been identified as Tanushree Dutt, 24, a resident of Dehradun, the police said. The driver, Sat end ra singh, sustained injuries in the accident that took place at sector 36 a of Gurgaon around 7 pm, said an officer.

Officials pointed out that two wheeler s were not allowed top lyon the 16-lane expressway ever since its inaugurati­on on March 11.

According to the police, the woman was picked from Sector 49 and was heading to a residentia­l society at AVL Sector 36A near the expressway where she stayed with her uncle.

“A speeding vehicle hit me from behind, causing me to fall to a side. The passenger who was sitting behind also fell on the road. When I regained consciousn­ess, I saw that the woman was in a critical condition. I immediatel­y called my company, police control room, and friends,” said the driver, adding that both of them were shifted to a hospital in a government ambulance.

Dutt had succumbed to injuries on reaching the hospital, said Singh who stays in Badshahpur. The driver of the vehicle that hit the bike taxi fled the scene, Singh stated in the complaint. Police said they were in the process of identifyin­g the vehicle.

After post-mortem, the body was handed over to relatives who took it to their native place in Dehradun, the police said. Dutt is survived by her parents and two brothers. According to the woman’s uncle, Yogesh Gairola, Dutt came tog ur ga on three months ago and had joined an interior designing firm. “She graduated from Chandigarh University. She was staying with my family. She would call to inform us whenever she would get late. Around 9.45 pm on Monday when she didn’t reach home, we got worried and I stepped out to check. A little away from the society, I saw a small crowd and got to know of the accident,” Gairola said.

The police have registered a case under sections 279,337,304 A, and 427 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
