ANDHRA PRADESH Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy took a break on Sunday from his state-wide bus yatra after getting injured on Saturday night when stones were pelted at him.

Police have registered an FIR under charges of attempt to murder, and formed multiple teams to identify those behind the stone-pelting, officers said. According to officials, the CM’S security detail will also be reviewed in light of the incident.

On Saturday night, when the CM’S bus tour was passing through Vijayawada and reached the Singhnagar area, stones were pelted at Jagan, who was standing atop the bus. Vijayawada West MLA Vellampalli Srinivas Rao, who was standing beside the CM, was also injured.

Jagan, who received a cut above his left eyebrow, and MLA Rao were taken to the Vijayawada Government Hospital for first aid and stitches were administered, officials from the CMO said.

An FIR against unknown persons under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) has been registered on Sunday morning at the Ajit Singh Nagar Police station. Several leaders of Jagan’s YSRCP have alleged that supporters of the TDP were behind the attack. YSRCP general secretary Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said, “No one, however powerful, will be spared for this cowardly attack on the CM.”

TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu condemned the attack on Reddy. "Istronglycondemntheattackon Jagan. I request the Election Commission of India (ECI) to initiateanimpartialandunbiasedinquiry into the incident and punish the responsible officials," he said in a post on X. However, the TDP alleged that the attack on Jagan was stage-managed.

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Y S Sharmila said she believes it was accidental. However, if it was not so, she said, everybody should condemn it. Sharmila said she is prayingtogodforthequickrecovery of her elder brother Jagan.
