Actor Sahil Khan held by Mumbai police in Mahadev betting app case
THE MUMBAI police crime branch arrested actor Sahil Khan from Chhattisgarh Sunday morning in connection with the Mahadev betting app case after his anticipatory bail application was rejected by the Bombay High Court last Wednesday.
The police said that soon after his bail plea was rejected, Khan had fled Mumbai in a car and the police chased him across various states including Goa, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana before he was eventually tracked down and arrested from a hotel in Chhattisgarh, police said.
Khan was produced before a holiday court on Sunday and was remanded to police custody for three days, an officer said. While on Bombay High Court orders, Khan had appeared for questioning before the police, but sources said he did not cooperate much.
Thepolicerecentlyquestioned Khan ,47, about the Mahadev bettinga pp, which allegedly enabled illegal gambling and transactions through the company.
The crime branch is investigatingthe promoters of them aha dev betting application which has several betting platforms connected to it. One of these betting apps was allegedly owned by Khan, the police said. The police said they have also found an old promotional video for the app in which Khan is encouraging people to bet through his app.
While rejecting his anticipatory bail plea, Justice Sarang V Kotwal of the Bombay High Court observed that Khan was named in FIR as one of the major owners of portals having inter-connected betting platforms and was a part of an illegal betting syndicate, and that he was 'directly connected' with the app called ‘The Lion Book247’.
