Resplendent Ceylon announces its newest luxury retreat in Sri Lanka- Wild Coast Tented Lodge
Located on the edge of Yala National Park, this stunning resort is all set to welcome guests from mid-october 2017 onwards Resplendent Ceylon, the benchmark for boutique, small luxury resorts in Sri Lanka has announced its newest resort offering- the Wild Coast Tented Lodge. Located at the edge of Yala National Park in the South-eastern part of the country, renowned for its dense leopard population, this spectacular luxury tented lodge finds its place where the glorious jungle meets a pristine beach overlooking the azure waters of the Indian Ocean.
Set to open in mid-october 2017, Wild Coast will be the third of Resplendent’s trail of unique resorts across Sri Lanka, after the iconic Ceylon Tea Trails and the stunning Cape Weligama. The Lodge will also be a member of Relais & Chateaux, which brings together some of the finest hotels and restaurants around the world.
Like its sister resorts, Wild Coast’s aesthetic ethos stems from its environment into which has been designed to seamlessly meld. The entire resort, with its 36 vaulted tents, has been built using meticulously handpicked natural materials.
To illustrate, the use of arched fabric and bamboo allows each tent to take on the shape and colour of the rocks nearby. Two categories of tents are on offer – Cocoons and Urchins. The Cocoons measuring a generous 55 sq. mt. are air-conditioned and have elegantly furnished interiors, fusing colonial expedition chic with contemporary design innovations, such as teak floors, freestanding handmade copper bathtubs and four-poster beds. There will be 4 secluded beach-facing Cocoons that offer private plunge pools, whilst 16 more Cocoons are dotted around five watering holes designed to attract a variety of fauna including birdlife and amphibians, where guests will be able to enjoy spectacular views from the outdoor decks. An additional 8 family Cocoons will house an adjoining twin-bedded 20 sq. mt. Urchin tents, ideal for children and young adults alike. In an interesting aesthetic move, the layout of the tents form the shape of a leopard’s paw print, when seen from above.
The Lodge also offers world-class dining experiences. An openair bamboo-clad “Ten Tuskers” bar and “Dining Pavilion” wrap around the resort’s enormous free-form swimming pool. The cuisine is authentically Sri Lankan and to keep things interesting the menu will change daily.
The ‘Sanctuary Spa’ will offer a range of natural treatments developed inhouse with native Sri Lankan ingredients- Ceylon Tea and Ceylon Cinnamon.
Wild Coast Tented Lodge promises to offer exceptional wilderness experiences, allowing you to immerse yourself in some of the
richest biodiversity in Sri Lanka. Vehicles will whisk you to the quietest corners of Yala National Park, whilst expert naturalist guides will talk you through the incredible diversity of flora and fauna, including elephants, sloth bears and leopards. A variety of lectures and workshops will offer a deep insight into the fascinating natural surroundings.
The resort’s library will also double up as an educational centre where you can learn about the surrounding wildlife in the park and watch documentaries, further explained by the lodge’s expert guides and naturalists.
As with all Resplendent Ceylon resorts, Wild Coast is also designed to adopt a wide variety of eco-friendly initiatives. Water from guest rooms and public areas will be recycled for use in landscaping and a solar plant will meet 40% of the energy needs. Organic waste will also be composted on site for use in the landscape. The resort will house a conservation station dedicated to monitoring and protecting vulnerable wildlife within the surrounding area, including the Sri Lankan leopard.
