Telangana polls after preparatory works: ECI
POLLS to Telangana State Assembly would be held after only the completion of election related preparatory works which are going at a brisk pace all over the state as per the directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana, Rajat Kumar said.
He said that the poll should be held within six months after the dissolution of State Assembly, However, ECI would take a decision when the polls has to be held after the assessment of preparedness. ECI was making constant observations on the preparations, and that the elections should be conducted within six months from the date of dissolution of the government.
For holding the polls, certain statutory requirements needs to be made such as preparation of electoral rolls, elected related works, drafting of polling staff and officials and providing training related to conduct of elections, procuring Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPATs), a method of providing feedback to voters using a ballotless voting system and other required logistics.
Before going for polls, all precautions are being taken in the state. Active work is going in all the 31 districts and ECI is closely monitoring the election related works in Telangana. The commission is also tracking the movement of EVMs and VVPATs being dispatched to the state.
The first-level checking of EVM machines will be done in the presence of political parties. The machine will be checked for electronic and manufacturing defects. Political parties will be allowed to test the equipment to
