Te­lan­gana polls af­ter prepara­tory works: ECI

POLLS to Te­lan­gana State Assem­bly would be held af­ter only the com­ple­tion of elec­tion re­lated prepara­tory works which are go­ing at a brisk pace all over the state as per the di­rec­tions of the Elec­tion Com­mis­sion of In­dia (ECI), Chief Elec­toral Of­fi­cer of Te­lan­gana, Ra­jat Ku­mar said.

He said that the poll should be held within six months af­ter the dis­so­lu­tion of State Assem­bly, How­ever, ECI would take a de­ci­sion when the polls has to be held af­ter the as­sess­ment of pre­pared­ness. ECI was mak­ing con­stant ob­ser­va­tions on the prepa­ra­tions, and that the elec­tions should be con­ducted within six months from the date of dis­so­lu­tion of the gov­ern­ment.

For hold­ing the polls, cer­tain statu­tory re­quire­ments needs to be made such as prepa­ra­tion of elec­toral rolls, elected re­lated works, draft­ing of polling staff and of­fi­cials and pro­vid­ing train­ing re­lated to con­duct of elec­tions, procur­ing Elec­tronic Vot­ing Ma­chines (EVMs) and Voter Ver­i­fi­able Pa­per Au­dit Trail (VVPATs), a method of pro­vid­ing feed­back to vot­ers us­ing a bal­lot­less vot­ing sys­tem and other re­quired lo­gis­tics.

Be­fore go­ing for polls, all pre­cau­tions are be­ing taken in the state. Ac­tive work is go­ing in all the 31 dis­tricts and ECI is closely mon­i­tor­ing the elec­tion re­lated works in Te­lan­gana. The com­mis­sion is also track­ing the move­ment of EVMs and VVPATs be­ing dis­patched to the state.

The first-level check­ing of EVM ma­chines will be done in the pres­ence of po­lit­i­cal par­ties. The ma­chine will be checked for elec­tronic and man­u­fac­tur­ing de­fects. Po­lit­i­cal par­ties will be al­lowed to test the equip­ment to
