Modi lauds Bohra Mus­lims for na­tion build­ing

PRIME Min­is­ter Naren­dra Modi on Fri­day praised the Da­woodi Bohra com­mu­nity for its con­tri­bu­tion to de­vel­op­ment of the coun­try.

In his two-hour trip to In­dore, Modi ad­dressed a large gath­er­ing of the Bohra com­mu­nity in pres­ence of its re­li­gious head Syedana Mu­fad­dal Sai­fud­din at the mosque in Saifee Na­gar. The PM said the com­mu­nity’s re­li­gious head through his ser­mons con­veyed the mes­sage of love and ded­i­ca­tion for moth­er­land.

The in­flu­en­tial 2.5 lakh strong Da­woodi Bohra com­mu­nity has a size­able pres­ence at In­dore, Uj­jain,

Rat­lam and Sha­japur dis­tricts of Malwa re­gion in Mad­hya Pradesh. The head of Da­woodi Bohra com­mu­nity is hold­ing a nine-day re­li­gious dis­course in In­dore since Wed­nes­day.

“The con­cept of ‘Va­sud­haiva Ku­tum­bakam’ is a great strength of In­dia, mak­ing it dis­tinct from oth­ers. The Bohra com­mu­nity is mak­ing the world aware of this con­cept through its work,” he said.

Re­count­ing his long bond­ing with the com­mu­nity, Modi said

Bohra traders were present in ev­ery nook and cranny of Gu­jarat. He added that dur­ing his chief min­is­te­rial ten­ure, the com­mu­nity backed him and the ini­tia­tives of his gov­ern­ment at ev­ery pos­si­ble junc­ture. “It’s that un­par­al­lel warmth and sup­port which has brought me here.”

Re­call­ing his past in­ter­ac­tion with the com­mu­nity’s re­li­gious head at an air­port, Modi said, “we then had a small con­ver­sa­tion with about wa­ter scarcity in Gu­jarat and need to build check dams. Syedana Sahib

went back and helped build sev­eral check dams, en­abling sev­eral wa­ter starved vil­lages.”

The PM also praised other so­cial ini­tia­tives, in­clud­ing com­mu­nity kitchen and char­i­ta­ble hos­pi­tals, of the com­mu­nity.

He high­lighted his gov­ern­ment’s wel­fare schemes meant for nutri­tion of moth­ers and in­fants, and added that the Ayushman Bharat scheme en­vi­sions uni­ver­sal health­care for all In­dian cit­i­zens.

Modi lauded the com­mu­nity’s move of link­ing the com­mu­nity’s on­go­ing ‘Ashara Mubaraka’ event with the mes­sage of en­vi­ron­ment con­ser­va­tion and san­i­ta­tion.
