Modi lauds Bohra Muslims for nation building
PRIME Minister Narendra Modi on Friday praised the Dawoodi Bohra community for its contribution to development of the country.
In his two-hour trip to Indore, Modi addressed a large gathering of the Bohra community in presence of its religious head Syedana Mufaddal Saifuddin at the mosque in Saifee Nagar. The PM said the community’s religious head through his sermons conveyed the message of love and dedication for motherland.
The influential 2.5 lakh strong Dawoodi Bohra community has a sizeable presence at Indore, Ujjain,
Ratlam and Shajapur districts of Malwa region in Madhya Pradesh. The head of Dawoodi Bohra community is holding a nine-day religious discourse in Indore since Wednesday.
“The concept of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ is a great strength of India, making it distinct from others. The Bohra community is making the world aware of this concept through its work,” he said.
Recounting his long bonding with the community, Modi said
Bohra traders were present in every nook and cranny of Gujarat. He added that during his chief ministerial tenure, the community backed him and the initiatives of his government at every possible juncture. “It’s that unparallel warmth and support which has brought me here.”
Recalling his past interaction with the community’s religious head at an airport, Modi said, “we then had a small conversation with about water scarcity in Gujarat and need to build check dams. Syedana Sahib
went back and helped build several check dams, enabling several water starved villages.”
The PM also praised other social initiatives, including community kitchen and charitable hospitals, of the community.
He highlighted his government’s welfare schemes meant for nutrition of mothers and infants, and added that the Ayushman Bharat scheme envisions universal healthcare for all Indian citizens.
Modi lauded the community’s move of linking the community’s ongoing ‘Ashara Mubaraka’ event with the message of environment conservation and sanitation.
