CM Naidu con­ducts aerial sur­vey of dis­tricts

AF­TER Titli, peo­ple of Srikaku­lam district are fac­ing floods, with river Vam­sad­hara, Ma­hen­dra Tanaya and river Bahuda flow­ing above dan­ger mark. Heavy rains lashed the up­per catch­ment ar­eas of both Vam­sad­hara, Ma­hen­dra Tanaya and Bahuda in Odisha.

Gates of dams on both rivers were opened and wa­ter re­leased down­stream. At Gotta Bar­rage on Vam­sad­hara, flood wa­ter is be­ing re­leased at a dis­charge rate of 1.67 lakh cusecs. With heavy in­flows into Bahuda river, sev­eral ar­eas of Icha­pu­ram mu­nic­i­pal­ity and sur­round­ing vil­lages got in­un­dated and the road to Odisha has been cut off.

Chief Min­is­ter N Chan­drababu Naidu on Fri­day con­ducted an aerial sur­vey of the flood-af­fected vil­lages in the district. He an­nounced `5 lakh as an ex gra­tia to the fam­i­lies of the eight peo­ple who died in cy­clone-re­lated in­ci­dents on Thurs­day.

The Chief Min­is­ter, who vis­ited Akku­palli and Baipalli vil­lages of Va­jra­pukot­turu man­dal and in­ter­acted with peo­ple there, said co­conut and cashew nut hor­ti­cul­ture crops were dam­aged in large ex­tent. He said of­fi­cials are en­gaged in enu­mer­at­ing the losses.
