Chen­nai: The state gov­ern­ment should take steps to con­duct jal­likkattu in Dharmapuri district dur­ing the Pon­gal fes­ti­val, said Dr An­bu­mani Ra­ma­doss, Dharmapuri MP and youth wing pres­i­dent of the PMK. He said the Dharmapuri Col­lec­tor had banned the event in the district when the peo­ple in rest of the state were busy with mak­ing ar­range­ments for jal­likkattu. An­bu­mani said ‘manju vi­rattu’ (chas­ing and tam­ing of bulls), cock­fight and other traditional sports of Tamils have also banned in Dharmapuri district. The Col­lec­tor has warned the peo­ple of se­vere ac­tion in case of vi­o­la­tion, he said, re­call­ing how sev­eral protests were held in 2017 for jal­likkattu. ENS
