Batting needs to be better: Mandhana

The New Indian Express - - SPORT -

WHITEWASHED by New Zealand women in their threematch T20I series, India opener Smriti Mandhana Sunday said her team needs to address its batting woes, especially after losing all games from winning positions. On Sunday in the final clash, India almost pulled off a dramatic win, but failed to score a boundary off the final delivery. Chasing 162, Mandhana put India on course with a career-best 86, but India ended on 159/4. “The girls fought really well. If you look back at the series, 70 to 80 per cent of the times we were in winning positions. That’s a good takeaway, but there are a lot of things that we can improve,” said Mandhana. “We need to address those (batting) issues as soon as possible. We need someone who can bat through 20 overs and someone who can go in during the middle overs and get runs later on.” Brief scores: NZ women 161/7 in 20 ovs (Devine 72; Deepti 2/28) bt India women 159/4 in 20 ovs (Mandhana 86;

Devine 2/21).
