Several companies of Indo-tibetian Border Police ( ITBP) have been dispatched to Jammu and Kashmir for the purpose of upgrading the security grid during the ensuing Panchayat elections.

Some of these companies may be deployed in the sensitive areas of the region of Jammu where two BJP leaders were killed recently which resulted in the deployment of the Army and curfew restrictions in the twin towns of Kishtwar and Bhaderwah.

Once these ITBP companies were deployed in the sensitive areas there may not be any need for calling out the Army to maintain law and order.official sources indicated that deployment of ITBP companies could motivate voters to participate in the Panchayat elections after the very poor percentage of polling in the Kashmir valley during the recent ULB elections.

Indications were that these companies may look after the activities of militants that too in the hilly areas of Ra jo uri, po on ch, ki sh war,b haderwah and Banihal. These ITBP companies have been dispatched to reduce the chances of communal trouble.
