DDC takes stock of dam­age to hor­ti­cul­ture sec­tor

Deputy Com­mis­sioner Kul­gam Dr Shameem Ahmad Wani to­day con­ducted an ex­ten­sive tour of Noorabad in Kul­gam to take stock of the dam­age caused by re­cent snow spell to the or­chards.

He di­rected the Hor­ti­cul­ture De­part­ment to con­duct grower-togrower dam­age assess­ment across the district due to re­cent snow spell so that the af­fected grow­ers can be com­pen­sated. Em­pha­siz­ing on the con­duct of field vis­its, the DC di­rected the con­cerned to de­ploy field staff of Hor­ti­cul­ture de­part­ment along with Pat­waris and Gir­dawars to pre­pare the dam­age assess­ment re­port and sub­mit the same for early com­pen­sa­tion to the af­fected grow­ers.

The DC was ac­com­pa­nied by ACR, SDM Noorabad, Tehsil­dar D H Pora, Chief Hor­ti­cul­ture Of­fi­cer and other of­fi­cers from al­lied de­part­ments.

The DDC di­rected the con­cerned and ex­perts to as­sess the losses in­clud­ing fu­ture fruit­bear­ing ca­pac­ity and age fac­tors of par­tially dam­aged trees. He also stressed to pro­vide tech­ni­cal as­sis­tance to the farm­ers.

Dur­ing the in­spec­tion, var­i­ous pub­lic and fruit grow­ers dep­u­ta­tions met the DC at var­i­ous vil­lages, and ap­prised him about dam­ages to or­chards and de­manded to waive off their KCC loans.

The DC as­sured them that the dam­age assess­ment re­port would be sub­mit­ted to the higher au­thor­i­ties for early com­pen­sa­tion to the af­fected grow­ers. He also di­rected the CHO to or­gan­ise aware­ness camps in col­lab­o­ra­tion with KVK in all blocks of Kul­gam.
