2 shel­ter homes for chil­dren to come up at Jammu

Two shel­ter homes un­der Ju­ve­nile Jus­tice Sys­tem are com­ing up at Jammu, one for boys and the other for Girls at Chris­tian colony and Sha­heedi Chowk here.

The pro­posed shel­ter homes will be built on six Kanals of land owned by the So­cial Wel­fare De­part­ment.

The de­ci­sion was taken in a meet­ing chaired by Sec­re­tary So­cial Wel­fare De­part­ment Dr. Fa­rooq Lone to­day. The meet­ing was held in con­se­quence to the ear­lier bud­get meet­ing in which the Prin­ci­pal Sec­re­tary

Fi­nance De­part­ment agreed to pro­vide funds for the con­struc­tion of four shel­ter homes, two each for Boys and Girls in Jammu and Sri­na­gar. Mis­sion Di­rec­tor, ICDS and ICPS, Di­rec­tor So­cial Wel­fare Jammu, Dis­trict So­cial Wel­fare Of­fi­cer, Jammu and other con­cerned at­tended the to­day's meet­ing.

Dur­ing the meet­ing

Mis­sion Di­rec­tor ICPS was di­rected to get the DPRS pre­pared for con­struc­tion of the Homes in Jammu. The land for es­tab­lish­ing shel­ter home for boys and girls at Sri­na­gar is be­ing fi­nal­ized.

The shel­ter homes are be­ing built for the tem­po­rary re­cep­tion of the Chil­dren in need-of-care and pro­tec­tion in­clud­ing street chil­dren, ab­scond­ing chil­dren, aban­doned chil­dren, miss­ing chil­dren, des­ti­tute, vic­tims of child labour and child abuse. The stay of Chil­dren in such Homes shall be up to a pe­riod of one year, where fa­cil­i­ties of board­ing and lodg­ing be­sides pro­vid­ing of ba­sic needs in terms of cloth­ing, safe drink­ing water, ed­u­ca­tion and also vo­ca­tional train­ing and recre­ational fa­cil­i­ties shall be pro­vided.

The State Gov­ern­ment has al­ready es­tab­lished Child Wel­fare Com­mit­tees (CWCS) in all the 22 dis­tricts of the State in­clud­ing Dis­trict Jammu. The es­tab­lish­ment of the Homes shall en­able the Child Wel­fare Com­mit­tee, Jammu to re­ha­bil­i­tate in need-of-care and pro­tec­tion.
