Work­shop on child-cen­tered emer­gency pre­pared­ness

Sec­re­tary Dis­as­ter Man­age­ment, Res­cue, Re­lief & Re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion (DMRRR), PHE and I&FC, Fa­rooq Ah­mad Shah, to­day stressed on the need for col­lec­tive ef­forts to ad­dress vul­ner­a­bil­i­ties of women and chil­dren dur­ing dis­as­ters.

Speak­ing at on­go­ing three­day state level work­shop, 'Con­sul­ta­tion on child­cen­tered emer­gency pre­pared­ness', he laid stress on col­lec­tive ac­tion of Ad­min­is­tra­tion, NGOS and other stake­hold­ers to im­ple­ment child and women safety mea­sures in gen­eral and dur­ing the time of dis­as­ter in par­tic­u­lar.

He ap­pre­ci­ated the en­thu­si­asm of the par­tic­i­pants and en­cour­aged them to take ad­van­tage of the op­por­tu­ni­ties. He also ex­plained the vi­sion of DMRRR and the im­por­tance of con­duct­ing such work­shops to groom of­fi­cials.

While shar­ing his ex­pe­ri­ence with the par­tic­i­pants, Sec­re­tary em­pha­sized on keep­ing the pas­sion alive de­spite the chal­lenges and hard­ships to achieve the bet­ter­ment of the vul­ner­a­ble part of so­ci­ety es­pe­cially women, chil­dren and vul­ner­a­ble groups.

The work­shop has been or­ga­nized by J&K SDMA in col­lab­o­ra­tion with DMA Jammu, NDMA and UNICEF, a.

Those present were Emer­gency Spe­cial­ist UNICEF, Sarab­jit Singh, Xavier Thomas, for­mer Mem­ber NDMA, Dr Muzaf­far Ahmed, UNICEF, Ad­vi­sor, be­sides of­fi­cers from Di­vi­sional Com­mis­sioner of­fice Jammu, Ad­di­tional Deputy Com­mis­sion­ers, Dis­as­ter Man­age­ment Pro­fes­sion­als and other Se­nior Of­fi­cers from Ed­u­ca­tion, So­cial Wel­fare, ICDS, ICPS, PHE, Fire & Emer­gency Ser­vices, Health & Med­i­cal Ed­u­ca­tion De­part­ments, and NGOS. other In his ad­dress, Di­rec­tor Dis­as­ter Man­age­ment and Deputy CEO J&KSDMA, Aamir Ali, said that the in­ter­ven­tion of the line de­part­ments will help the Gov­ern­ment to take ef­fec­tive mea­sures to main­stream child-cen­tred dis­as­ter risk sec­tion in their devel­op­ment plan­ning.

He added that the work­shop will prove to be a use­ful ex­er­cise in fram­ing the risk pro­fil­ing of the Jammu Divi­sion with a spe­cial fo­cus on the vul­ner­a­bil­i­ties of Chil­dren and women. He also said that the com­ments, de­tails, data that emerge out as the out­come of the work­shop will be up­dated in the plan for bet­ter re­silient com­mu­ni­ties.
