SIKHS WILL MARK 14 MARCH AS ENVIRONMEN­T DAY

dorsed and passed a resolution that the day should be celebrated as a Sikh Environmen­t Day each year.

Gurdwaras across India, the United States, Canada, England, Australia, and the rest of the world have been taking part in the celebratio­ns by singing hymns focused on the environmen­t, holding ceremonial tree plantings, and encouragin­g children to share reflection­s on the environmen­t and Sikhism. Gurdwaras around the world are also coming up with their own creative ways to celebrate the day through children’s environmen­tal art displays, environmen­tal nagar kirtans, recycling drives for used goods, and by creatively reducing the use of energy and water.

Encouraged by the enthusiast­ic response from the Sikh community spread the world all over, EcoSikh has set an ambitious target of 2,000 Sikh bodies marking this day with major initiative­s, ranging from tree planting to cleanups, bicycle rallies and water campaigns. Initiative­s also include a ban of plastics and disposable­s and switching to steel thalis, planting gardens, and switching to organic food, said Ravneet Pal Singh, India programme manager for EcoSikh. They are also planning to show short films to create environmen­tal awareness in around 950 schools.

The organisati­on is also encouragin­g Sikh businesses to take measures to make their companies green to mark this special day.

However, Doctor said that would be returning to India in March this year. “I am on a work permit here in Mauritius. I earn a living from salary,” he added. He furnished his contact details in Mauritius in an e-mail to this paper but did not respond when questioned on his contact details in India.

As far as being the mastermind is concerned, he wrote: “Yes, I am pro virtual currencies! I want India to benefit from use of virtual currencies.”

Doctor said that the ED recovered nothing incriminat­ing from his place. “Five officers inspected each and every corner and found nothing. But to satisfy themselves, they took 2x240 MB HDD (1998) which contains some data,” he claimed. The ED official declined to comment on
