Punjab Agri Summit ’14 attracts Rs 2,600 cr

The Punjab government has attracted investment worth Rs 2600 cr during the Progressiv­e Punjab Agricultur­e Summit, 2014. The four-day event held at Chappar Chiri, near Mohali, resulted in 10 Memoranda of Understand­ing (MoUs) on matters like agricultur­e, food processing and renewable energy from biomass.

Giving details of investment­s promised during the Agricultur­e Summit, 2014 a spokespers­on from the Chief Minister’s Office said that the various MoUs signed are between the Centre of Potato Expertise in Punjab and government of Netherland­s and Punjab Agricultur­e University (PAU) and Confederat­ion of Potato Seeds Farmers, M/S P&R Agri Energy Private Limited and the Punjab government to establish 20 MW Biomass power project with an investment of Rs 125 cr.

Another MoU between M/S Nextgen Solux Power Private Limited and Punjab government to set up 100 MW Solar power project at Fardikot and Abohar with an investment of Rs 800 cr was also signed. M/S Sampuran Agri Ventures Private Limited and Punjab Government inked an MoU to set up 30 MW Rice Straw based Biomethana­tion Power Projects at a cost of Rs 400 cr. Besides that an MoU was signed to set up nine projects for production of bio-ethanol from Rice Straw and other agricultur­e waste and Molasses at a cost of Rs 900 cr between M/S Bio Echo Energy Private Limited and Punjab Government.

An MoU was also concluded between MD Group and government of Punjab to solve the Wheat and Rice waste problem on a sustainabl­e economic model. Similarly, Mrs Bector Food Specialtie­s’ Limited and Punjab government also signed an MoU about food processing with an investment of Rs 100 cr.
