Incidents of road rage have become routine in the national capital, with yet another killing of two brothers in cold blood in outer Delhi’s Bawana area. The lanes of Sultanpur Dabas were deserted on Saturday, following the murder of the duo here outside their house no. 310 in broad daylight on Friday. According to the bereaved family and village residents, the assailant is a neighbour and lives only a few houses away in the adjoining street.

The duo, Sahab Singh (40) and Kaptan Singh (35), were reversing their tempo ( a goods carrier) out when they ran into Rahul Dabas alias Kaala over not giving side to his white Skoda car no. DL 1772, said the police.

“Accidentally, the Skoda got slightly scratched by the tempo, when Rahul lost his cool and picked a fight with them after which he along with his three associates shot at them from close range. However, the kind of weapon used will be determined by the forensic reports, but prima facie it appeared that country-made pistols were used,” said a senior police official heading the investigation team.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the assailants fired over 6-8 rounds of bullets. Police have recovered several used cartridges from the spot. “While Sahab was shot at four times, Kaptan took three bullets,” he added.

However, according to the slain brothers’ father, Lalchand, there were four men in the car and all of them had a pistol each.

“I saw them when two of them got out of the car and beat up Sahab. Then they bashed up Kaptan as well. At this time, one of them sitting inside the car shouted instructions that the two be shot. All four of the assailants had guns in their hands,” he said.

“They repeatedly shot at my sons. I asked them to shoot me as well. But instead, they pointed a gun at my 15-year-old grandson who was rushing outside. He closed the door of the house. After which they fled the spot,” he added.

Kaptan’s wife Saroj told this newspaper, “I saw them shooting my husband. I had just reached the door when I saw him and my brother-inlaw falling to the ground and lying in a pool of blood. We have got nothing left to live for now.”

Sunita, the wife of Sahab, said, “I cannot believe all this has happened. A marriage was coming up in the family. We are completely ruined.”

Both of them were breadwinners of the family and had three children each.

Meanwhile, Lalchand told The Sunday Guardian, “Kaala is a criminal element. He lives in the adjacent lane with members of his extended family, as his parents are dead. His elder brother too is in jail. Both of them used to pick violent fights with people over petty issues.”

Confirming the criminal background of the accused, a senior police official said, “The accused, along with his associates, is on the run. He is a history-sheeter, particularly in incidents of road rage.”

“Rahul Dabas’ elder brother is already serving a jail term. They are criminals beyond redemption. Rahul too has been arrested several times, but managed to get out on bail. This time, it is a heinous murder and we will make sure they are not spared. We have spread different teams across the state borders to nab them,” he added.
