Bvlgari opens new store in Delhi’s luxury mall

Eggspectation, Jaypee Vasant Continental Vasant Vihar T: (011) 2614 8800 A guest chef from Spain collaborates with an Indian chef to conceptualise a Spanish menu. You can pick from a range of tapas such as tortillas, patumaca, sea food fideua, gazpacho, chuletas, pescados and paellas for an authentic Spanish expedition. On till 22 December. Meal for two: Rs 3,000 (with wine) plus taxes For all those bemoaning the presence of only one player in the haute joallierie segment, namely Cartier, fret not. Bvlgari is here to shake things up. Even as the brand celebrates 130 years, they’ve set up shop in the mecca of all things you don’t look at the price tag of, Emporio Mall. This is their second stint in India after a hiatus of three years.

The latest fare on offer is the MVSA Collection, a huge nod to its Greco-Roman origins. It is dedicated to the nine Muses, daughters of Zeus and goddesses of the art forms. Also available are the iconic Serpenti and the Diva collection. Men, don’t feel left behind — for if trinkets are here, can timepieces be far behind? Their luxury watches will have you rethinking the value of time — something Jean-Chris- tophe Babin, CEO of Bvlgari, knows a lot about, having made India covet Tag Heuer for over a decade.

The MVSA is the perfect collection to open their doors to India with. The colour palette is reminiscent of an elegant peacock and many of the stones are sourced from Jaipur. The takhti cut, resurrected from the Mughal tradition of cylindrical gemstones, is being used for the first time by any contemporary jeweller in this collection. Out of the nine different themes (one allotted to each muse) the writer’s favourite is the Odissi — Aegean blue, and piercing green are married together with potent red, perfectly balancing colour and shape the way only Bvlgari can.

A regular on the Hollywood red carpet, Elizabeth Taylor was their most famous client. Known for their signature big baubles and bold colour choices, this is jewellery one wears on occasions — to flaunt what one’s got. But not everything is red-carpet dramatic. Bvlgari is bringing its classical ethos to the working woman by always contemporising its design, so that it can lend the glamour of a ’50s prima donna with the ease of something you could wear to the office.

It’s not every day one opens the collection note and is greeted with Arthur Rimbaud — “Genius is the recovery of childhood at will”. Young, vibrant and playful; Bvlgari wears its century-old tradition lightly.
