Eat fresh, eat healthy, go fully organic

- BY OUR CORRESPONDENT

The aftermath of the tragic, publicly drawn out demise of Maggi (long live the Maggi) seems the perfect time to reflect on the toxic and unhealthy eating habits of the urban populace at large. Ultimately, it’s of course down to the choices an individual makes, but it does seem wise know and understand the potential impact of the food we ingest on a tri-daily (or more) basis. On that note, we list of handful of stores that stock fresh, healthy or organic food as an alternative. FUDFILL Fudfill has a range of food items, both cooked and raw, that they sell and deliver. It’s an online marketplace, launched this year, that connects consumers with chefs and suppliers and the products available range from groceries, including organic dairy produce as well as organic staples and pulses. In addition, they also boast a list of specialty and gourmet products, including coldpressed juices, cleanses, cakes and granolas, dips and butters, and Fudfill also provides entire meals and snack sets. They’re based in Delhi and currently only deliver to south Delhi and parts of Gurgaon, but intend to expand their range (location wise) over time. It features a wide range of exotic products available for shipping in several cities across India (products reach Delhi in three to four working days; two working days for Mumbai). Their exhaustive list of products, sourced from multiple well-known brands, includes antipasti and toppings, jams, bakes, cereals, grains, rice, seeds, oils, sauces, vinegar, mushroom, pasta, even alternatives to dairy in the form of almond milk or soy milk. They’re trying to create a demand for healthy, local organic food, and all orders placed to them via their website or over the phone are obtained from the farmers that they’ve tied up with. Each day, they receive the produce from the farmers, following which they weed out any low- quality food items to ensure a certain standard of quality, and, as per the orders placed, they deliver the food the same day, working on a cash-ondelivery format. Essentially, Navdanya is a “network of seed keepers and organic producers”; it’s spread across 17 states and has helped set up community seed banks across the country, while also training lakhs of farmers in sustainable agriculture and other techniques over the years. Navdanya also boasts organic outlets and cafés in Delhi, Mumbai and Dehradun. In Delhi, they also home deliver foods, pulses, seasonal fruits and vegetables and spices.
