The Congress decision to boycott International Yoga Day events has triggered a debate within the party. Some are worried that by boycotting the event the Congress has added fuel to the criticism that it is against the majority community and believes in Muslim appeasement. There is also considerable division in the party over whether, or not, Sonia Gandhi should host an iftar to mark Ramzan. A section in the party is opposing the holding of an iftar in view of A.K. Antony’s report last year saying that Congress was viewed as a pro Muslim party, which resulted in the polarisation of votes.
