DEADMAU5 AND DISNEY SETTLE MOUSE EARS DISPUTE

Canadian DJ Joel Zimmerman has settled an intellectual property dispute with Disney over his stage headgear and Disney’s Mickey Mouse character that Disney claimed looked very similar. Zimmerman wanted to trademark his own headgear with the US patent and trademark office. In response, Disney had filed an opposition stating that the headgear would cause confusion among their customers, since Deadmau5’s headgear was “… nearly identical in appearance, connotation and overall commercial impression to Disney’s mouse ears”. Zimmerman’s lawyer has since told The Hollywood Reporter that the matter has been amicably resolved outside of court.
