Message from JccII
It is a great opportunity for us at the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in India (JCCII) to express our deepest appreciation to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi for his second visit to Japan in November 2016.
Bilateral ties between India and Japan have been on a growth trajectory, especially since the two countries agreed to enter the Special Strategic Global Partnership in 2014. The number of Japanese companies operating in India today is more than 1,200 and has doubled since the past six years. The Delhibased JCCII is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and the number of members has exceeded 400 companies. According to a survey conducted by a Japanese bank last year, India has assumed No. 1 position for the second consecutive year as the most encouraging FDI destination among Japanese companies.
Despite a favourable busi- ness environment, few significant operational hurdles related to tax, regulations and infrastructure etc., are still encountered by the investors. JCCII has been instrumental in submitting its suggestions to the Indian government since 2009 to address such hurdles and further promote Japanese FDI in India. JCCII also holds periodic follow- up meetings with the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, which sincerely and earnestly receives, discusses and value-ads to our suggestions.
Furthermore, after a majority of large companies having invested in India already, the need to invite, lure and induce Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) has risen. Such SMEs can be a major contributor to the gross economic advancement of both countries. We believe JCCII’s suggestions and government implementation on the same will set a platform for Japanese SMEs to enter the Indian market.
Today, Japan and India are sharing fundamental values and strategic interests with each other and their emerging trade and investment ties are fueling growth in the Asian region. We are hopeful that both countries will take their mutual relationship to new heights and we can witness Indo- Japan cooperation among several new agreements in the near future.
Mr Modi’s visit to Japan will further strengthen the close bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries and JCCII will continue to support in this direction. —
