‘We aim to expand strategically in foreign markets’

- SIDDHARTH TIWARI

“Our large customer base is in India and with these two bikes we are offering our riders an upgrade to a much powerful and comfortable ride. Also, we aim to expand strategically in foreign markets. The markets in developing countries are relatively more mature and the average speed levels are around 100-120 kmph compared to 60-80 kmph in India. So, while 350cc-500cc bikes are still extremely powerful on Indian roads, for global markets 650 twin is a great fit. We are hopeful that Interceptor INT 650 and the Continental GT 650 will mark the beginning of a new chapter for us,” Siddhartha Lal, CEO Royal Enfield, told Guardian 20 at the launch of the brand’s modern twin motorcycles, the Interceptor INT 650 and the Continental GT 650 on 18 November in Goa.

The much awaited showcasing of the brand’s “two most important bikes” came approximately two weeks after its first reveal in Milan at the EICMA motorcycle show, earlier this month. With the launch of Interceptor INT 650 and the Continental GT 650 at the 14th edition of Rider Mania in Goa, Royal Enfield, one of the oldest surviving motorcycle brands and the global leader in mid-size motorcycle segment (250-750cc), endeavours to expand its biking base and “brotherhood” globally.

The Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 will be launched in all 40 countries that the brand is present in, including Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Brazil, and Columbia.

Speaking about the company’s ambitious plans with the two new entrants, Rudratej (Rudy) Singh, president at Royal Enfield, noted that unveiling the bikes to the RE community, much before its formal launch, is an extension of gratitude to all the Enfield riders.

“Showcasing these new motorcycles to our community, much before its launch, is testament to the fact that our riders and community are at the heart of our brand, and that they are the true custodians of our brands purpose of pure motorcycling. Unveiling the new twin motorcycles exclusively to the community at Rider Mania is our idea of celebrating the spirit of this community”.

Furthermore, the all new Continental GT 650 is already famous among the young riders of Royal Enfield who cannot stop talking about its sporty look. Continental GT 650 shares its engine, chassis and running parts with its twin, the Interceptor INT 650, while offering completely differ- ent ergonomics and style. The motorcycle has an eager, front-leaning stance that gives it a sporty look and a speedy form. The Continental GT 650’s ergonomics offer easy reach to the mid-level handlebars, for an optimum blend of steering feel and comfort with no compromise to its 12.5L fuel tank capacity. The upswept exhaust and rear-set footrests give the motorcycle plenty of lean angles, essential for any true cafe racer.

Both the Continental GT 650 and the Interceptor INT 650 will be available in variety of colourways and two distinct styles—Standard and Retro Custom.

The Continental GT 650 and the Interceptor INT 650 will have a whole suite of Royal Enfield Genuine Motorcycle Accessories available, such as engine guards, lifting handle, pannier mounts, and an auxiliary electrical port.
