COLOMBO: Sri Lankan Pres­i­dent Maithri­pala Sirisena has signed a spe­cial gazette no­ti­fi­ca­tion dis­solv­ing Par­lia­ment and declar­ing 5 Jan­uary 2019 as the date for a snap par­lia­men­tary elec­tion. The Pres­i­dent said late Fri­day that Par­lia­ment would stand dis­solved from Satur­day 12 a.m. and nom­i­na­tions for the par­lia­men­tary elec­tions would be called from 19 to 26 Novem­ber. An­other re­port said ousted Prime Min­is­ter Ranil Wick­remesinghe’s party the United Na­tional Party would file a case in the Supreme Court against the early dis­so­lu­tion of Par­lia­ment.
