The logic of love is complicated

-

The Guru Granth Sahib guides us:

By thinking, He cannot be reduced to thought,

Even by thinking hundreds of thousands of times.

We find knowledge is infinite, and will lead to more knowledge, and He is always beyond the knowledge milestones. The devotee is better served by love for Him, and love for all His creation. A great logical mind is pursuing His path, and is moving on a constant pilgrimage to study and debate the scriptures at various places. He feels elated when he discovers a smart thought that can be used to debate at the next stop. He is always comparing what he thinks is the good and the bad, and between his own concepts of truth and untruth. After competing his discourse at one temple, he asks about who is the most truthful in the village, and who is the habitual liar. He then asks them the same question, “What is the best way to go the next town, should I go by the river or the mountain path?” The truthful one says, “Take the mountain path.” The liar says, “Take the mountain path.” For the logical mind, this is very confusing – how can the truthful and the liar recommend the same path?

He takes the mountain path, and reached the next village quite easily, where he shares his logical confusion. His sharp thinking cannot cut through the fog. A pious and loving person clears his doubt. “The best and quickest way is the river. The liar therefore told you to take the mountain path. The truthful was not thinking of himself, but was full of love and concern for you. He saw that you had a donkey with you, but no boat, and therefore it was better for you to take the mountain path. The loving devotee loses his ego, Guru Gobind Singh says:

I speak the truth, listen all –

Only those who love Him, find Him.
