Special committee constituted by Bar Council of Delhi to draft Advocates Protection Act after recent attacks on lawyers
The Bar Council of Delhi has constituted a special committee in order to draft the Advocates Protection Act for the safety of lawyers who are practising in the national capital and are being registered with the lawyers’ body.
The Bar Council Of India while considering the recent attacks on lawyers inside and outside the premises of courts in a meeting held unanimously and has decided to constitute the committee in order to draft the comprehensive Advocates Protection Act for ensuring that the legislation is enacted by the Delhi Government. Special Committee constituted will be headed by the former Chairman of the Bar Council of Delhi, K.C. Mittal The other members of the special committee constituted are as follows:
Mr. D.K. Sharma, the Chairman of Executive Committee of BCD
Mr. Sanjay Rathi, the Hon. Secretary of BCD
Mr. Ajayinder Sangwan, the Co-chairman of BCD
Mr. Ajay Sondhi, the Cochairman of BCD
It has also been stated in the press release by the lawyers’ body wherein it is stated that the Bar Council Of Delhi in the meeting also considered that the Government of Rajasthan has already enacted a similar legislation and the Bar Council of India has also sent a proposal to the Government of India for enacting the Advocates Protection Act. The press release stated that all the members on realising the ground realities and the situation, all its members are in favour of bringing Advocates Protection Act on urgent basis for advocates practicing in Delhi and NCR who are enrolled with Bar Council of Delhi.
Therefore, the Bar Council of Delhi also requested that all its members as well as the office bearers of the coordination Committee of the district bar associations to give their inputs with respect to the same.
