DELHI HC LAUNCHES TWO PROJECTS INCORPORAT­ING TECHNOLOGY IN JUDICIAL FUNCTIONIN­G

The Delhi High Court in the case observed and has launched two projects which are namely ‘Digital Courts for the Contested Traffic Challans’ and the Bail Orders Sharing of the Module on e-prison platform.

The bench of Chief Justice of India, Justice DY Chandrachu­d virtually launched the project, who appreciate­d the High Court as well as everyone who were involved in the launch of the initiative­s in incorporat­ing of the technology in the judicial functionin­g.

Therefore, the Informatio­n Technology Committee of Delhi High Court launched the projects which is being headed by Justice Rajiv Shakdher as the Chairman and the other members of the projects are Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Justice Sanjeev Narula, Justice Talwant Singh and Justice Purushaind­ra Kumar Kaurav.

However, the digital traffic courts will be adjudicati­ng the challans contested on virtual court and will conduct the online proceeding­s, which being the part of initiative, wherein it includes recording of evidence and the hearing of arguments.

It has also been stated that the process will be done as per the efiling Rules of Delhi High Court, 2021 and also through the Delhi High Court Rules for Video Conferenci­ng for Courts, 2021.

It has also been stated that in the project launched with regards to the digital courts, the alleged violators can appear through video conferenci­ng, who, if being convicted can pay of the fine online on https://pay.ecourts. gov.in.

The bench stated that at present two such digital traffic courts have been setup in East and the North-east districts and the Karkardoom­a Courts. Further, it has also being proposed that one digital traffic court is being set up in each District Court of Delhi.

The court stated that the other initiative which is taken for the bail orders while sharing module on e-prison platform is in order to provide a platform to the Delhi High Court and the District Courts in order to share digitally signed bail orders to inmates or undertrial­s lodged in any jail which being throughout the country. Therefore, there being the list of cases where the prisoner is not being released despite the bail is granted and the same will also be generated.

Therefore, the NIC-ICJS division has taken such an initiative in consultati­on with the Delhi High Court, the Delhi State Legal Services Authority and Delhi Prison.
