Sand mafia mows down cop in Firozabad
Agra: In yet another attack on police by sand mafia, a UP Dial 100 cop was mowed down by a sand-laden tractor-trolley in Firozabad district on Saturday. The constable suffered severe injuries and was rushed to Firozabad district hospital, from where he was referred to a private hospital in Agra where he died to due excessive bleeding and damage to internal organs.
The accused driver, identified as 24-year-old Druv Singh, was arrested, police said adding that an FIR was registered in the case. After getting information on the incident, DGP Javeed Ahmad visited the district hospital to meet the injured constable and take stock of the situation. He also directed the Firozabad police to take strict action against the culprits.
The incident took place around 7:30 am near Nagla Gadi. The tractor-trolley was ferrying sand illegally from a village (on Yamuna bank). When constable Ravi Rawat signalled the vehicle to stop at a checkpoint, the driver ran over the policeman and fled.
