Sand mafia mows down cop in Firoz­abad

Agra: In yet an­other at­tack on po­lice by sand mafia, a UP Dial 100 cop was mowed down by a sand-laden trac­tor-trol­ley in Firoz­abad district on Satur­day. The con­sta­ble suf­fered se­vere in­juries and was rushed to Firoz­abad district hos­pi­tal, from where he was re­ferred to a pri­vate hos­pi­tal in Agra where he died to due ex­ces­sive bleed­ing and dam­age to in­ter­nal or­gans.

The ac­cused driver, iden­ti­fied as 24-year-old Druv Singh, was ar­rested, po­lice said adding that an FIR was reg­is­tered in the case. Af­ter get­ting in­for­ma­tion on the in­ci­dent, DGP Javeed Ah­mad vis­ited the district hos­pi­tal to meet the in­jured con­sta­ble and take stock of the sit­u­a­tion. He also di­rected the Firoz­abad po­lice to take strict ac­tion against the cul­prits.

The in­ci­dent took place around 7:30 am near Nagla Gadi. The trac­tor-trol­ley was fer­ry­ing sand il­le­gally from a vil­lage (on Ya­muna bank). When con­sta­ble Ravi Rawat sig­nalled the ve­hi­cle to stop at a check­point, the driver ran over the po­lice­man and fled.
