Cook arrested for ‘poisoning’ his Colaba employer gets bail

The Times of India (Mumbai edition) - - TIMES CITY -

Mumbai: The cook arrested for allegedly trying to poison his Colaba employer has been granted bail as the prosecution failed to convince the court that it was a conspiracy. Session court judge A S Azmi, granting a cash bail of Rs 15,000 to Riyazul Haq alias Mandal, observed that there were deficiency and lacuna in the version of the complaint.

“The court also found there is no intoxication or drugs or stupefyina in the medical report. Secondly, the applicant relied on the Modi’s Juri- sprudence where it stated that thallium can be found only in urine and not in blood as found in medical report,” said Mandal’s lawyer Sunil Pandey. The Colaba police are awaiting medical reports from FSL.

Mandal’s employer, Zeenia Khajotia (75), a Parsi businesswoman who is an NRI, had lodged a complaint at Colaba police station that she suspected Mandal was poisoning her. Mandal cannot leave the country and must be available when required by the police. — S Ahmed Ali
